Hearthstone
Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft
Review by PocketHero
Hearthstone, Heroes of Warcraft, is a turn based strategy brought to us
by Blizzard Entertainment that recently came out of open beta, so I thought I'd give it a look.
Hearthstone is a free to play digital card game based on the warcraft usniverse. You pick your hero, build your deck and jump into 1v1 online
matches that can leave your heart pounding after a close victory There is no
such thing as an easy win in hearthstone and often when you think you've won,
your opponent will whip out some crazy card combination reducing your hero's
health to zero and snatching that victory right out of you sweaty hands.
Now lets talk gameplay.
Cards cost mana, a rescource drip fed to you each turn.
You gain one mana each turn untill you reach a cap of 10.
The more powerfull the card, the more mana it will cost Each of the 9 classes/heroes represent WoW
perfectly and have a unique ability which can be used if you have no cards to play that turn.
Shamens are dropping totems everywhere, rougue cards are
always going into stealth and Priests are enfuriating with all their healing.
The goal of each match is to get your opponents health down to 0 a diseptivly simple goal.
Unlike most card games, there are no complicated phases in which you can only play a cirtain card at a cirtain time.
In hearthstone as long as you have enough mana, you are able to play any card, in
any order you want. This allows players to make some very smart plays and the
ability to use certain card combinations to their fullest, however this mechanic
can also lead to players doing stupid things which is always haleriouse to
watch, especially when you figure out a combo they could have used instead.
Some minion cards have different abilities that they can use along side their own attacks.
Taunt cards force the opponent to attack them instead of other minions and your hero, Windfury allows a card to attack twice, battle
cry cards provide a buff or effect uppon being played etc etc.
The game has a easy to learn difficult to master aspect about it, similar to Starcaft 2.
And like all Blizzard games I rediculously hooked, rediculously fast!
This game is fun, witty, polished and just brilliant.
A well deserved 9/10!
